Mental Health First Aid Training for Faith Based Leaders

The Gulf Coast of Texas African American Family Support Conference (GCTAAFSC) is offering a Pre-Conference Mental Health First Aid Training for Faith-Based Leaders.
Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour public education program that introduces non-healthcare professionals to information that will help identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and associated disorders. Training is offered on the following:
- Risk factors and warning signs related to mental health,
- The impact of mental illnesses to families and communities,
- An overview of common treatment approaches,
- ALGEE, the 5-step action plan
Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack – even if you have no clinical training – Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or emotional concern or crisis.
In the Mental Health First Aid course, participants will learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health concerns.
What will I learn….
Participants who complete an 8-hour certification course will learn how to utilize a five-step action plan skills, knowledge, resources to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
Cost of the Training
The cost of the training is $45.00(actual value is $125.00 per participant). Group registrations are encouraged but will be limited to 3 registrants per organization. Be sure to register early.
