The 2016 Gulf Coast of Texas African American Family Support Conference welcomes
Ms. Zina Garrison as the 2016 Luncheon Keynote Speaker
Ms. Zina Garrison, World Tennis Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist will unmask and share about dealing with depression and overcoming the eating disorder, bulimia.
The Conference will take place on Saturday October 8, 2016, 9:00 am -2:30 pm at the United Way of Greater Houston 50 Waugh Drive Houston, TX 77007.
Conference Theme: Unveiling Masks: Real Conversations to Shatter Stigma and Myths
Join us on Saturday, October 8, 2016 in having Real Conversations about how individuals and families in the community are affected by mental health, intellectual disabilities, suicide and depression. Come, participate, hear and receive information from professionals and others with lived experiences to Unveil the Masks on accessing information, resources and getting help to End Stigma in our community. Goal: The 2016 conference goal is to strengthen families, increase awareness about health, social service information and resources available through culturally sensitive education, supports, and partnerships for African Americans. The conference will accomplish this goal through the following objectives:
- Participants will be able to discover information and resources to support overall wellness.
- Participants will be able to apply one strategy to support overall wellness.
- Participants will be able to adopt one positive outlook that decreases the stigma about accessing health and social care system.
*Presentations by service professionals and individuals with lived experiences.
*Session Topics: mental health, holistic wellness, developmental disabilities, culture and featuring youth only (age 15-22) sessions.
